“I’m Just An Old Arty-Farty Type-0-Bloke Really.”
This page is dedicated to images taken in and around Manchester by Dr Percey Veer.
There's a lot of images to see here. I have a particular fondness for graffiti, small insects, and flowers, although
I often don’t know the names of the flora and insects I photograph.
I simply enjoy the practice of seeing things a bit differently and playing with the focusing rings on my lovely replacement wife called "Nikon".
Make a brew and sit back to see images of Manchester through the eyes of an old arty-farty bloke who asks the question;
"Can anyone identify the planet I find myself on."

Dr Percey Veer Went to Prison Again...
A Journey from Incarceration to Redemption
Strangeways Prison, Manchester is the place that put an end to Dr Percey Veer's (Eddie Haworth) petty criminal past, brought on by being seriously abused as a child...
HM Prison Manchester is a Category A and B men's prison in Manchester, England, operated by His Majesty's Prison Service. It is still commonly referred to as Strangeways, which was its former official name derived from the area in which it is located, until it was rebuilt following a major riot in 1990.
Eddie’s life took a harrowing turn when he found himself behind bars. The late 1960s were a tumultuous time, and Eddie’s escape from the clutches of long-time abusers was nothing short of mind-blowing. However, freedom came at a cost. Desperate and disillusioned, he turned to petty crime, which eventually led to a three-month stint in HM Prison Risley, a boot-camp-style facility.
Inside those prison walls, Eddie glimpsed the harsh reality faced by real criminals in the North of England. Strangeways loomed large, a place where hardened offenders often ended up. But fate had other plans for Eddie. In 1969, upon his release, he made a conscious decision to turn his life around. No more brushes with the law, except for a couple of speeding fines, a remarkable feat considering the alternative path he could have taken.
Eddie’s journey from incarceration to redemption serves as a testament to resilience and the power of choice. Despite the odds stacked against him, he emerged on the right side of the law, leaving behind a past that could have consumed him entirely.

A Walk with Dr. Percey Veer: Conversations with Manchester’s Working Girls
Dr. Percey Veer (Eddie), embarked on a leisurely stroll around the vicinity of the prison. As he wandered, he engaged in conversations with some intriguing “ladies of the night.” Despite the context, there was never a hint that the good doctor would avail himself of their services. Instead, these exchanges provided a fascinating glimpse into the twilight world inhabited by Manchester’s working girls.
The streets whispered secrets, their stories woven into the fabric of the city. Percey listened, his curiosity piqued. These women, navigating life’s shadows, shared fragments of resilience, vulnerability, and survival. Their voices echoed through dimly lit alleys, revealing both hardship and unexpected camaraderie.
In those fleeting moments, Dr. Veer glimpsed a reality beyond clinical walls, a tapestry of lives intersecting under the city’s watchful gaze. His walk became more than physical; it became an exploration of humanity’s complexities.
And so, amidst cobblestones and flickering streetlights, Eddie discovered that compassion thrives even in the darkest corners. The ladies of the night, with their enigmatic smiles and weary eyes, left an indelible mark, an evocative chapter in the chronicle of Manchester’s nights.
